October is the last month of kitten season across most of the country, and fittingly it ends on the zodiac’s most mysterious cat. Libra for October 1–22 is the one at the door, welcoming; Scorpio for October 23–31 is the one on the stairs in the dark, deciding. A Halloween kitten is, appropriately, a Scorpio.

Born October 1–22: The Libra Cat The Charmer
An early-October Libra cat is the social secretary of the household. They greet, they circulate, they sit near whoever is being left out. Beauty matters to them — the soft blanket, the sunny cushion, the tidy room — and so does peace; raised voices send a Libra to the hallway to wait it out.
Their affection is easy and widely distributed, which can look like fickleness and is really fairness. A Libra cat wants everyone to be comfortable, itself included, and will move laps until the arrangement is just right. For the whole portrait, read the Libra cat profile.
Best with: an owner who likes a gracious, sociable cat and a calm home.
Born October 23–31: The Scorpio Cat The Enigma
Late-October Scorpio cats are the zodiac’s deep water. Intense, private, and fiercely loyal to one or two people, they watch a new room for a long time before entering it and remember everything once they do. Their stare is famous; their trust, once given, is absolute.
Scorpios love with their whole weight — sleeping against your spine, following you into every room, guarding the door. They dislike being managed and despise being laughed at. Respect the mystery and you have the most devoted cat in the zodiac. The Scorpio cat profile goes deeper.
Best with: an owner who earns trust slowly and never betrays it.
Born on the cusp? Around October 22–23
A birthday within a couple of days of October 22–23 sits on the Libra–Scorpio cusp: grace meets intensity. Cusp cats here charm the room and then choose one person to belong to. Read both portraits, or let the free quiz read the cat directly.
The last litters of the season October in the shelter calendar
The ASPCA defines kitten season as “typically March through October,” and Cornell’s Maddie’s Shelter Medicine Program closes its May–October intake peak in the same month. October kittens are the season’s final wave — born as the days shorten, arriving at shelters as the spring crowd has finally been adopted out. An October birthday is a believable estimate; whether it falls before or after the 22nd–23rd is a personality question the unknown-birthday guide helps you answer.
Only know the month, not the day? Very common with rescues
Only know the month? Have someone new sit on the floor: a Libra is in their lap within a minute; a Scorpio watches from the stairs for a week, then decides forever. All 12 are in the cat zodiac guide, the cat moon sign explains what the Scorpio isn’t saying, and a pet birth chart adds the rest.
Your October birth month cat If the October birthday is yours, not the cat’s
The “cat breed for your birth month” lists hand October a different breed every time, because October is two signs wearing one month. We match by sign and let the Cat Fanciers’ Association describe each breed.
Born October 1–22 (Libra): the Birman — the CFA’s breed page puts it this way: “Because the Birman is patient, even-tempered, and tolerant, it makes an excellent choice for families with children and other pets.”
Born October 23–31 (Scorpio): the Bombay — per the CFA: “Very affectionate, they are given to head-butting, kisses, and snuggling up with their people at night.”
A breed is a tendency, not a promise; the cat in front of you outranks any list. For the match keyed to your full sign rather than your month, see Libra owners or Scorpio owners.
