Search “cat horoscope” and you get twelve personality blurbs. Charming, and not a horoscope — a horoscope has dates in it.
This page has the dates. Every claim below is pinned to a planetary station or an eclipse you can look up yourself, cross-checked against two sources, with the places they disagree marked. It also has the only piece of real veterinary data anyone has on cats and the full moon, including the part where the researcher who found it tells you not to over-read it.
Two things this page will not do: pretend astrology predicts your cat’s health, or quietly swap in the Chinese zodiac when you asked about your actual cat. Both are how most of this genre goes wrong.
Don’t know her sign yet?
Nine questions about how she actually behaves. No birthday needed, no sign-up.
Meet your cat’s cosmic personality →Your cat isn’t in the Chinese zodiac. She’s in a different one.Why this keeps confusing search results
This trips up almost every search for a cat’s sign, and it is worth ninety seconds. The Chinese zodiac’s fourth animal is the Rabbit. There is no Cat.
But there is in Vietnam. In the Vietnamese zodiac the fourth animal of the twelve-year cycle is the Cat, and the Gurung zodiac of Nepal uses the Cat as well. The likeliest reason is a pun: the Earthly Branch character for that position, 卯, sounds like con mèo — Vietnamese for cat. Lowland rice country had fewer rabbits and more use for a rat-catcher, and cats were regarded as friendly and spirit-warding rather than food, so the substitution stuck.
There is also a folk-tale answer, the one about the rat shoving the cat into the river during the Great Race. We keep that story with the sign reference in the complete cat zodiac guide.
None of it is what this page runs on. A cat horoscope is Western — tropical — astrology: twelve signs keyed to a date in the solar year, the same system a human horoscope uses. Your cat has one because she was born at a moment, and moments have skies. If you have her month and day, the pet zodiac calculator settles her sign in one screen, and shows both candidates when she was born on a cusp instead of quietly picking one. If her birthday came with the carrier and no paperwork, the unknown-birthday routes for cats get you there another way.
What a cat horoscope can honestly trackFour levers, and one that belongs to another page
A dog horoscope can lean on walks, parks and strangers at the door. A cat gives you a different instrument panel, and it is narrower and quieter:
Territory. Which rooms she is claiming this month, and whether the claim is widening or shrinking. Height. Whether she is choosing the floor, the sofa back, or the top of the bookcase — vertical position is a cat’s clearest mood dial. Contact. Whether she is initiating touch or accepting it. Routine. How sharply she notices when yours changes.
Rest is the fifth lever and the biggest one, and it has its own page: where a cat sleeps is a reading in itself, which is what her moon sign covers. The moon governs comfort and retreat; the sun sign below governs how she meets the day. If you want the layer that decides how she handles a stranger in the hallway, that is the rising sign, and all three together make a full pet birth chart.
One honest framing before the dates. Transits are a calendar for paying attention, not a cause. Nothing below says a planet will do something to your cat. It says: here is a day worth noticing, and here is what to notice.
The sky, datedSeptember 2026 – July 2027
Every date here is a station — the moment a planet appears to stop and change direction — or an eclipse. These are the events a real forecast is built from.
August 28, 2026 — deep partial lunar eclipse. Umbral magnitude 0.9319 — about 93% of the Moon’s diameter enters Earth’s shadow at greatest eclipse, 4:12 UTC. Near enough to total that it reads as a blood moon. Completely visible from North and South America, setting over Africa, Europe and the Middle East. A lunar eclipse can only happen at full moon, which matters for the section below.
September 10, 2026 — Uranus turns retrograde at 5° Gemini, and stays that way until February 8, 2027. Uranus has moved out of Taurus, so earth-sign cats get a long-running disruption lifted; Gemini cats take the hit directly. The retrograde walks it back only to 1° Gemini — close to the Taurus line, never over it.
October 3, 2026 — Venus turns retrograde at 8° Scorpio, then reverses back into Libra around October 25. Venus rules affection and attachment, so this is the bonding stretch of the year.
October 15–16, 2026 — Pluto turns direct at 3° Aquarius, after months of backward motion.
October 24 – November 13, 2026 — Mercury retrograde in Scorpio. Signals, cues and mutual comprehension. Overlaps almost entirely with Venus retrograde, which makes late October the densest patch of the year.
November 13–14, 2026 — Venus turns direct at 22° Libra, ending the retrograde where it started, in Libra’s own sign.
December 10, 2026 — Saturn turns direct at 7° Aries. December 12 — Neptune turns direct at 1° Aries. Two slow planets releasing within 48 hours, in the same sign.
December 13, 2026 – April 13, 2027 — Jupiter retrograde in Leo. A pause in the year’s most generous transit, not a cancellation.
February 6, 2027 — annular solar eclipse, visible from southern Argentina and Chile, partially from Antarctica, South America and southern Africa.
Running underneath all of it: Jupiter in Leo, June 30, 2026 to July 26, 2027. Thirteen months of the growth planet in the zodiac’s most theatrical sign.
The only real moon data anyone hasOne study, and the caveat its author attached
Pages in this genre like to state that cats behave differently at the full moon. They rarely say who measured it. Someone did.
In 2007 a team led by Raegan Wells, DVM, at Colorado State University published “Canine and feline emergency room visits and the lunar cycle” in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association. They went back through 11,940 cases at the university’s veterinary hospital, spanning 1992 to 2002, and sorted them by lunar phase.
Emergency visits ran 23% higher for cats on the fuller-moon days — 28% higher for dogs. The effect was concentrated in the three brightest phases: waxing gibbous, full, and waning gibbous.
Now the part the internet drops. Wells said plainly: “While the results of our retrospective study indicate that there is an increased likelihood of emergency room visits on the days surrounding a full moon, it is difficult to interpret the clinical significance of these findings.” A retrospective count is not a mechanism. Nobody showed the moon caused anything, and the researchers declined to say it had.
So hold it exactly where it sits. This is not a reason to worry on a full moon, and it is emphatically not a reason to skip a vet visit or make one. It is the single place in this whole subject where a sky event and a measured outcome in cats appear in the same peer-reviewed sentence — and even there, the authors would not claim cause. That is the honest ceiling of what a horoscope is for: notice more, conclude less.
The August 28, 2026 eclipse is a clean test case for exactly that. Roughly 93% of the Moon’s diameter goes into shadow, and an eclipse of the Moon can only occur at full moon. If your cat is restless that night, you now know precisely how much and how little it means — and the same reasoning applies to every full moon after it.

See your compatibility score →All twelve signs, cat editionEach tied to a dated transit above
These are not shuffled. Each sign is matched to the transit that genuinely touches it — its ruling planet stationing, or a planet sitting in its own degrees.
Aries
Two slow planets finish reversing inside your sign 48 hours apart — Saturn on December 10, Neptune on December 12. For a cat who has spent the autumn testing which doors are hers, that is a release valve. Expect the territory question to settle rather than escalate: the rooms she was contesting in October are simply hers by New Year, without the negotiation.
Watch height in early December. An Aries cat who drops from the bookcase to the sofa back is not losing confidence, she is done proving the point. Give her one new thing to be first at in January — a box, a window, a route — and the fire has somewhere to go. Full profile: the Aries cat in full.
Taurus
The best news in this forecast belongs to Taurus, and it is about absence. Uranus — the planet whose whole job is unsettling the ground — has moved on into Gemini, ending a long stretch of upheaval aimed at the sign that wanted it least. Worth knowing precisely: its retrograde does creep back toward you, from 5° Gemini on September 10, 2026 down to 1° Gemini, where it stops and turns forward on February 8, 2027. It gets close to the Taurus boundary and does not cross it.
For a comfort-first cat this shows up as routine holding. She will notice your schedule changes less sharply than she did a year ago, and the same nap spot will stay the same nap spot. Venus retrograde in October is the one soft patch: her ruling planet reversing tends to read as fussiness about affection, not distance. Feed the ritual and it passes. Full profile: what a Taurus cat is actually like.
Gemini
Gemini takes the most direct hit in this forecast, and it is the interesting kind. Uranus sits at 5° Gemini and turns retrograde there on September 10, 2026, holding until February 8, 2027. Uranus in your own sign is novelty as a background condition rather than an event — and retrograde, it turns inward.
Read it in contact rather than territory. A Gemini cat under this transit tends to change her mind about being held mid-hold, and to reverse a preference she held firmly last month. That is not fickleness to be corrected; it is the sign doing exactly what it does, amplified. Rotate what is available to her and let her pick. February 8 is when the restlessness starts pointing outward again. Full profile: the two-cats-in-one-body profile.
Cancer
Cancer is the sign the Moon rules, which makes the August 28, 2026 eclipse yours before it is anybody’s. About 93% of the Moon’s diameter enters Earth’s shadow, and it happens at full moon by definition. If any sign is going to register a lunar event in her behaviour, the argument for it is strongest here.
The honest version: this is the sign where the eclipse night is worth a note in your phone rather than a worry. More shadowing, more contact-seeking, a preference for the lowest and most enclosed option available. Her comfort layer runs deeper than the sun sign anyway — the moon sign is where a Cancer cat is really legible. Full profile: the velcro-cat temperament.
Leo
Jupiter is in Leo from June 30, 2026 until July 26, 2027 — thirteen months of the growth planet in your sign. Nothing else in this forecast is that long or that favourable, and Leo gets it as a home advantage.
Expect the confident version of her: more room claimed, more of the household treated as audience, more willingness to be the cat who greets the guest. The one caveat has a date. Jupiter turns retrograde on December 13 and stays that way until April 13, 2027 — a pause, not a reversal. If the expansion plateaus over winter, that is the calendar, and it resumes in spring. Full profile: the Leo cat, unabridged.
Virgo
Mercury rules Virgo, and Mercury turns retrograde on October 24, running until November 13. Your ruling planet reversing is the transit that actually applies to you, and its department is signals.
For a cat who already notices when the food bowl moved two inches, three weeks of scrambled communication is felt. The practical read: cues she knows will land less reliably, and she may respond to the tone rather than the word. Do not introduce a new routine in that window — a Virgo cat wants the old one executed properly. Late November is the time to change something. Full profile: the Virgo cat's exacting standards.
Libra
This is the cleanest match in the forecast. Venus rules Libra, Venus turns retrograde on October 3, and it turns direct again on November 13–14 at 22° Libra — the station happens inside your own sign. Six weeks of the affection planet reversing, ending on your ground.
In a Libra cat this reads as recalibration rather than withdrawal. She may test the terms of contact through October — approaching, then declining the follow-through — and then be markedly warmer from mid-November, having settled what she wants. It is also the best window of the year for the household-harmony thing Libra is good at, once Venus is moving forward. If you have wondered how your own sign pairs with hers, this is the stretch where the answer is easiest to see. Full profile: the diplomat of the cat zodiac.
Scorpio
Scorpio carries the densest patch of the entire year. Venus turns retrograde at 8° Scorpio on October 3, and Mercury spends its whole retrograde — October 24 to November 13 — in Scorpio too. Two planets reversing in your degrees, overlapping.
For the sign that already keeps its own counsel, this is an intense October, and it shows up as depth rather than drama: harder to read, more selective about who gets access, more attached to one person and less interested in the rest. High and hidden are both likely — the top of the wardrobe and the back of the closet. None of this needs fixing. It thins out after November 13. Full profile: the Scorpio cat's one-person loyalty.
Sagittarius
Jupiter is your ruler, and it spends this entire forecast in Leo — a fellow fire sign, and one it works well from. Sagittarius gets the year’s long tailwind second-hand but genuinely.
Territory is the lever to watch. This is the year the indoor Sagittarius cat lobbies hardest for the parts of the house she is not allowed in, and the outdoor one ranges wider. Jupiter’s retrograde from December 13 to April 13 reads as a winter of turning that curiosity inward — same appetite, smaller radius. Rotate her environment instead of expanding it and the season passes easily. Full profile: the explorer profile.
Capricorn
Saturn rules Capricorn, and Saturn has been retrograde since late July. It turns direct on December 10 at 7° Aries. Your ruling planet resuming forward motion is your event of the year, and Saturn’s department is structure.
Through autumn a Capricorn cat tends to look like she is holding a position with effort — the same perch defended a little too carefully, the routine kept a little too rigidly. From mid-December that eases into ordinary authority. She is a cat who wants the rules to be real and consistent; December is when they start feeling that way to her again. Full profile: the Capricorn cat's quiet authority.
Aquarius
Pluto is moving through Aquarius and turns direct at 3° Aquarius on October 15–16, 2026, after months of reversing through your sign. Pluto moves so slowly that it defines an era rather than a season, and this is the point in the year where it starts moving forward through your degrees again.
Aquarius is the sign least interested in doing things the standard cat way, and a slow forward Pluto tends to make the oddity more committed rather than less. Whatever unusual preference she has — the sink, the specific drawer, the one human she has decided about — expect it to deepen from mid-October rather than fade. The correct response is accommodation, not correction. Full profile: the eccentric of the twelve.
Pisces
Neptune rules Pisces, and Neptune turns direct on December 12 at 1° Aries — two days after Saturn does, in the same sign. Your ruling planet has been retrograde since early July; December is the release.
A Pisces cat runs on atmosphere. Through the autumn retrograde she is the one who reacts to a mood in the room before anything is said, and often to nothing you can identify. That sensitivity is not a problem to solve; it is the sign. From mid-December it settles into something calmer and more directed. She is also the cat most likely to want contact she does not initiate — sit down and let her arrive. Full profile: the dreamer's full reading.
What a horoscope can’t tell youThe limits, stated plainly
Everything above runs on the sun sign, which needs only a date. That is why it works for cats at all — most cats arrive without a birth certificate, and a month and a day is a low bar. But it is also the ceiling. The Moon changes sign roughly every two and a half days and the rising sign changes every two hours, so without a birth time those two layers stay estimates. Anyone selling you a precise feline rising sign from a date alone is guessing and not saying so.
The bigger limit is the one the study section already drew. A forecast is a prompt to look at your cat more carefully on a particular week. It is not a diagnosis, a prediction, or a reason to wait on something that worries you. If the horoscope makes you notice that she has stopped using the top shelf, the horoscope did its job — and then the vet, not the ephemeris, is who you ask why.
Dog people: the same calendar, read through a completely different animal, is in the dog horoscope.
